What is Alpha?

Alpha is a series of group conversations that freely explore the basics of the Christian faith in an open, friendly environment.  Everyone’s welcome. No matter your background or beliefs, you’re invited.

What to Expect

01. Meet new people and enjoy good food together.

02. Watch a talk exploring a big question around the Christian faith.

03. Space to hear from others and share your thoughts.

Alpha is made for people who are in the same boat – not sure about faith, but curious to find out more.

You’ll meet people from the local Bristol community and get to know them over the course of your Alpha.

Each session kicks off with some time to connect and eat together.

Food is provided free by King's Elim – so whether it’s biscuits or brisket, you’re in for a treat.
The Alpha talks will either be given in person or shared as an episode for everyone to watch together.

Each talk is designed to spark conversation and unpacks a different question.

In all, the Alpha talks are designed to give an overview of the key beliefs of the Christian faith.

The most important part of any Alpha – an open conversation about the week’s topic.

You can share your thoughts and questions, or just see what other people made of it.

There’s no pressure to say anything or come to any conclusions – just a safe space for everyone’s unique perspective.

Got Questions?

Who is Alpha for?

Alpha is for everyone, no matter your background or beliefs. Whether you’re new to exploring faith or simply open-minded about it all, Alpha is for you.  We all bring different thoughts to the table, and at Alpha we want to create a space that’s open for everyone to find what faith means for them.

What topics does Alpha cover?

Alpha is a space to explore different parts of the Christian faith in a relaxed and friendly environment. Each session covers a different topic, like prayer, the bible, who Jesus is and loads more.  Then there’s plenty of time to chat about what you think. Each group has a leader to help guide the conversation. There’s never pressure to share your thoughts, but the floor is yours if you do want to say something.

How much does Alpha cost?

It’s free! And there’s no follow up and never any pressure to come back.

When is the next Alpha course at King's Elim?

Planning your Visit

A Warm Hello

Welcome! Whether you've just moved to the area, or have lived here all your life, we hope our website helps you to find out everything you want to know about our Church.  The following information is specifically for those planning a visit, so that you know, beforehand, what to expect on a Sunday morning.

Where and When
We meet at Vincent Court, Soundwell Road, in Kingswood (details here) for our Sunday Service starting at 11:00am with free tea, coffee and refreshments being served from 10:30am, where everyone is welcome to come along and chat, providing plenty of time to meet new people and ask any questions. For your first visit, we recommend arriving a few minutes early to ensure you get a parking space and find somewhere to sit before the service begins.

What should I expect when I visit the church?
You will receive a very warm welcome particularly from our Welcome Team who will be able to answer your questions and direct you to where you need to go. There will be approximately 30 mins of singing with opportunity for church members to pray or read a passage from the bible. After the notices there will be a preach from our Pastor, one of the leaders at the Church or a guest speaker, with a chance to respond at the end of the service.  The structure of our time together is not rigid but we typically finish around 12:30pm.

Is the building accessible?
The building is fully accessible, with accessible parking spaces and all activities and facilities, including disabled toilets, are on the ground floor.

Is there a dress code?
No! Please just be yourself and come dressed in your 'normal' clothes.

Will I have to join in?
Not at all! You are free to simply observe or participate as much as feels comfortable for you.
